Mission:

The BKMEA TB CONTROL PROJECT aims to strengthen TB control efforts through establishing effective partnerships with factories, mobilizing necessary resources and ensuring quality diagnostic and treatment services under the DOTS strategy. It strives to make services equally available and accessible to all readymade garment’s workers in Bangladesh irrespective of age, sex, religion, ethnicity, social status or race.

TB Free Bangladesh Readymade garments workers: Zero deaths, disease and suffering due to TB

 

Brief Summary on TB Control Programme:

BKMEA TB Control Program started its activities in December, 2013 at BKMEA Health Care Center (2nd Floor), Road# 2, Plot# B/528, BSCIC I/A, Fatullah, Narayanganj.  It comprises with nine (9) members of which a Project Manager, a Medical Officer, an Accounts Officer, a Lab Technician, five program officer. The TB Control Team covers almost 131,415 garment workers in 400 small, medium and large factories in BSCIC area. It arranges group discussion sessions on TB at various garment factories in BSCIC and its adjacent areas for awareness building and collecting presumptive. The Program has a Microscopy center and a DOT center. TB cases are being registered, notified and providing DOTS from here. BKMEA, BRAC and Local Government are working here with close collaboration to achieve the ultimate Goal of National Tuberculosis Control Programme.  

 

Achievement:

Population Coverage: 131,415 (Workers with midlevel management)
Sputum (AFB, X-ray, Gene-Expert) tested: 19473
Total no. TB Patients identified (All forms): 2686
No. patients under treatment: 429 (11patient. died during the treatment period)
No. Patients completed treatment: 2257
